The excipient’s job is to ensure that the active ingredient remains “active” and also stable for the shelf-life of the products.

Types of excipients include binders, coatings, fillers, sweetners, lubricants, glidants, fillers and sorbents.

Excipients, together with inert pigments and solvents, are compounded with active pharmaceutical ingredients to make dosage forms.

An excipient is in general an “inactive” substance which is used as a carrier for the active ingredients to stabilize it.

Packaging for the Excipient Industry

Darbox is active in the excipient market with leading packaging solutions for powders and granulates.

An example of how Darbox delivers to the Excipient Industry:

A leading European excipient manufacturer was producing and exporting bulk excipient by sea and by air, in 25 kg liner bags packed inside a standard fibre drum.

For years they had used this packaging, despite issues with moisture and other elements affecting the fibre drums integrity, production issues with workers injured by the metal clamp ring closure, and warehouse and transport inefficiencies.

How could they improve the package and efficiencies, as well as ensure the safety and security of their products?

Darbox stepped in with a solution to replace standard fibre and plastic drums. The solution – a 52 liter SquarePack™ container to pack the 25 kg liner bags. The conical, nestable UN certified 52L square-shaped container provides a user-friendly, secure and reliable packaging solution.  The plastic 100% recyclable material is resistant to moisture and other elements, and the press-on closure does not include the problematic metal clamp ring.

The SquarePack maximizes the pallet footprint, nesting one inside the other when empty, and stacking up to 3 m high when filled, providing a cost-effective solution. In addition, the company realized an added benefit by receiving a colorful package reflecting their company branding. Now, the company can pack their product inside the heavy-duty 52L UN SquarePack container without risk of the former issues and damage.

The integrity of their products is assured, supply chain costs are improved due to minimizing transport and storage costs, and both the company and their customer benefit.
